Skiing in Washington

The state of Washington, situated in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States of America, is one of its most diverse states, in terms of landscape. By virtue of its location, the state has a long coastline along the Pacific Ocean. The Puget Sound, is another low lying area of the state. Besides these areas, lying beside the sea, the state of Washington has also been blessed with several other physical features. These include, the hight Cascade mountain range, running through the middle of the state, dividing it into two. There are also other mountainous regions like the Mount Rainier and the St. Helen's mountain.



These mountainous terrains of the state of Washington promotes the practice of several varieties of winter sports. It has been a favorite haven for skiing in the US, for decades. The snow clad slopes of the mountains of Washington has promoted the development of skiing in Washington.



The state of Washington houses numerous ski resorts with plenty of options of Alpine skiing and cross country skiing. There are also several Nordic Ski trails which still remains to be explored. Besides providing opportunities for skiing, the ski resorts of Washington also provide a breathtaking view of the winter scenery along the slopes and across the peaks of mountains in Washington.

Among the favorite sites for skiing in Washington, is the Mt. Baker, which is an active volcano and has been used as a site for winter sports in Washington from the 1920s. Mt. Baker receives about 600 inches of snowfall annually. Another such important skiing site in Washington is the Crystal Mountain, lying south east of Tacoma, near Mount Rainier National Park. This is the largest ski area in the state of Washington, dedicating more than half of its trails to the intermediate skiers.

Hurricane ridge, lying in the Olympic National Park, the peak at Snoqualmine, Steven's Pass and Chewelah Peak in the state of Washington provide some of the finest skiing destinations in the world.
