Airports in Washington

The Washington State of United States of America was named after the first president of U.S.A., George Washington. Washington is located on the western most part of U.S.A. and is bordered by the Pacific Ocean. Known world wide for its stunning natural beauty, Washington is visited by a great number of tourists. There are 140 public airports in Washington. There are 16 state airports owned by the Washington State Department of Transportation, out of which seven are owned directly, one is on lease and eight of airports operate conditionally.



Boeing Field in Seattle is the busiest non-hub airport of Washington.

The aims of the airports in Washington are to provide easy and convenient access to the world.

There are two metropolitan airports: Dulles International Airport and the Reagan International Airport.



The Washington State Department of Transportation Aviation protects and preserves the 139 airports in Washington State. The airports form a lifeline to thousands of people commuting everyday.

Each year WSDOT provides grants to the 139 public airports in Washington. In July 2007 it has announced its first rounds of grant of 1.3 million dollars to 44 airports for the period of 2007-2009.

The WSDOT also involves in various disaster relief efforts and rescue operations. In doing so it takes help from Civil Air Patrol and Washington Emergency Management Division.

WSDOT’s Education program is designed to facilitate information and support to protect the existing airports. It also works towards general growth of economy and stability of the communities in and around airports.
