Cougar Mountain Zoo



The Cougar Mountain Zoo was established in 1972, with the aim of protecting endangered species and spreading awareness regarding the protection and preservation of these rare species. Most of the animals present in the zoo were either born or rared up within the zoo, making them have a friendly attitude towards humans. This helps the visitors in taking a good look at the myriad life forms of the wild. Located on the breathtakingly beautiful northern slopes of the Cougar Mountains, and having a view of the Cascade Mountain Range and the Lake Sammamish. The Cougar Mountain Zoo is located in the city if Issaquah, which lies within a short distance from Seattle.



The Cougar Mountain Zoo has ten exhibits, referred to as, the Ten Worlds of the Cougar Mountain Zoological Park. These exhibits have been discussed below in details:



  • The World of Cougars – A Zoo exhibit, typical of the Cougar Mountain Zoo.
  • The World of Macaws – A rare collection of 8 species and sub species of Macaws.
  • The World of Reindeer – the Largest collection of reindeer herds within a zoo, inside America.
  • The World of Cranes – Two beautiful species of cranes make up this exhibit.
  • The World of Ratites – a grand collection of the Emus.
  • The World of Camelids – The Alpac, the smallest animal of the camel family has been exhibited here.
  • The World of Lemurs – three species and sub species of Lemurs have been exhibited here.
  • the World of Wallabies – the swamp wallaby is the major attraction here
  • The World of Cheetah – this exhibit will soon be opened.
  • The World of Tigers – has the Bengal subspecies as the main exhibit.
There are several ways in which you can get involved with the Cougar Mountain Zoo. There are programs like the fundraising programs, internship programs, volunteer programs and the donation programs, through which you can get involved. You can also plan for a birthday or any other kind of party at the Cougar Mountain Zoo. Besides special rates for these parties, there are special packages for group tours. The zoo remains open between January and November, every year from Wednesday to Sunday, between 9:00am to 5:00 pm. The zoo remains closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.
