NorthwesTrek Wildlife Park



The NorthwesTrek Wildlife Park was established in 1975, after a long planning period of four years. The idea of the park first came to Dr. David and Connie Hellyer when they granted 500 acres of land to Metro Parks Tacoma. Over the years, this wild life natural park, turned out to be a treasure for every wild life enthusiast. The NorthwesTrek Wildlife Park is a unique combination of several facets of nature. There are meadows, lakes, trails and several varieties of animals. The park is presently home to about 200 varieties of animals of North America.



The specialty of the NorthwesTrek Wildlife Park is that it is not closed in any season. Every season brings forth a new face of the park. In winter, the white cover of the snow, coupled with the thick furred animals provide a special treat to the visitors. While during the spring times, you can witness the NorthwesTrek Wildlife Park in its most colorful attire. During the fall, it is the breeding season for most of the animals while during the summer you can spot pretty little bison calves, elk calves and fawns roaming about.



The NorthwesTrek Wildlife Park can be explored on trams, while visiting the free roaming area. You can also enjoy the park on foot, by walking through the forested pathways. The nature trails, which extends upto five miles holds a lot of surprises for visitors. I you are eager on gaining some hands-on experience, you must visit the Cheney Discovery Center.

The animals that can be seen while walking through the forested pathways include, grizzly bears, Bobcats, Black bears, lynx, cougars, wolves, owls, eagles and several varieties of wetland animals like the beaver, otter and Raccoon. While walking on the nature trails, you are sure to get a view o the most exotic species of butterflies, birds, insects and local plants.

The park has set down few safety rules, so that no visitor gets harmed during a visit to the NorthwesTrek Wildlife Park. The NorthwesTrek Wildlife Park remains open from 9:00am daily from Mid-February to October. Between November to Mid February, the park remains open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and on selected holidays.
