The major portion of the park, conserved as wilderness, is registered under the National Wilderness Preservation System. The Mount Rainier National Park was considered a National Historic Landmark in the year 1997. It represented the architectural style of he National Park Service Rustic that made them quite popular. The Mount Rainier National Park was also registered under the National Register of Historic Places.
