Birch Bay State Park

Located in the Whatcom county in the northwestern corner of the state of Washington, the Birch Bay State Park ranks high among the many state parks of Washington. Covering an area of 194 acres, the Birch Bay State Park shares a 8,255 feet of saltwater shoreline with Birch Bay and 14,923 feet with freshwater shoreline on Terrell Creek. Rich in archaeological significance, the Birch Bay State Park offers panoramic views of the Cascade Mountains and Canadian Gulf Islands. A place of exquisite scenic beauty, Birch Bay was named by botanist Archibald Menzies for its abundance of black birch trees during the 1792 Vancouver expedition.

The colorful flora and fauna of the Birch Bay State Park region is a major attraction for tourists, who come to visit the place for its teeming wildlife. A wide variety of animals, birds and fishes make the Birch Bay State Park their home. Some of the most important animals and birds living in the park are deer or elk, muskrats, rabbits, raccoons, skunks, squirrels, eagles, herons, hummingbirds, jays, owls, woodpeckers etc. The bays and lakes adjoining the park also contain a wide variety of fishes, crabs, oysters etc. which makes fishing a very popular tourist activity for visitors. Besides fishing, however there are also a host of other activities that one can pursue in the Birch Bay State Park. The park has six sheltered and 120 unsheltered picnic tables, one kitchen shelter with electricity and water, one Amphitheater and a Basketball Court for visitor's use.
