Damon Point State Park

At Washington's state parks, you will discover the natural beauty of beaches, sheltered Puget Sound islands, old-growth forests, desert and Columbia River Gorge landscapes. State Parks of Washington are an excellent source for enjoyment and learning. These parks are excellent for camping, hiking, biking, boating, windsurfing and rock climbing. In winter, venture out for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. One of the most popular State Parks of Washington is the Damon Point State Park.

Damon Point State Park is a 61-acre day-use park. It is located at the southeastern tip of the Ocean Shores Peninsula. The park consists of a one-mile-long, half-mile-wide stretch of land projecting out into the sea. It offers spectacular views of Grays Harbor, the Olympic Mountains, and Mount Rainier. Damon Point State Park is commonly known as Protection Island.

The one-mile hike to the tip of the point is the biggest draw to Damon Point State Park. Other popular activities at the park include saltwater fishing, clamming, crabbing, beach combing, agate rock collecting, birdwatching, and wildlife viewing. The point is popular with birders and contains one of the few remaining nesting sites of the snowy plover. You can also observe scores of harbor seals and the remains of a notorious ocean liner. Wildlife at the park includes rabbits, crows or ravens, ducks, eagles, geese, gulls, hawks, herons, ospreys, owls, wrens, sea birds, seals, and whales. The park has five unsheltered picnic tables with no dump station availability. Visitors are expected to pack their garbage out when they leave.
