Joemma Beach State Park

At Washington's State Parks, you will discover the natural beauty of beaches, sheltered Puget Sound islands, old-growth forests, desert and Columbia River Gorge landscapes. State Parks of Washington are an excellent source for enjoyment and learning. You can explore the state on long-distance land and water trails. Or, take a break for camping, hiking, biking, boating, windsurfing and rock climbing. In winter, venture out for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. One of the most popular State Parks of Washington is the Joemma Beach State Park

Joemma Beach State Park is a 122-acre marine camping park with 3,000 feet of saltwater frontage on southeast Key Peninsula. Aside from the natural beauty of park and surroundings, the area is an excellent place for fishing, boating and crabbing. This forested park set on Puget Sound provides a boat launch and two water trail campsites. The water trail campsites are available only to campers arriving by human-powered watercraft. All campsites are first-come, first-served. The park has 19 tent spaces.

The original recreation site was developed in 1961, and was named Robert F. Kennedy Recreation Area in 1968. The recreation area was renovated by DNR in three phases, beginning in 1986. When the property was transferred to State Parks in January 1995, it was renamed by the State Parks Commission after Joe and Emma Smith, early settlers who lived on the property from 1917 to 1932. The Smiths operated a bulb business, trading store, and a newspaper, the Joemma Bulletin. Many local people enjoyed picnics and social gatherings at the site, calling it Joemma Beach State Park.
